Move over bridal illusion, English netting and silk tulle, and make way for large silk flower pins, feather headbands, freshwater pearl tiaras and Swarovski crystal combs. These days, veils often have to share or even cede the spotlight to elegant or eye-catching headpieces and hair jewelry. “We’ve seen a lot more accessories for the hair in ready-to-wear, and it has carried through to bridal,” says Rachel Leonard, fashion director for Brides magazine.

Un-Veiling the Options
Gina Ludwig, owner of HairComestheBride.com and AisleStyleBeauty.com , has seen a significant change in hair accessory styles over the last five years. “It used to be that most brides wore tiaras,” says Ludwig. “Now they’re wearing more pieces on the side or back of the head, such as smaller combs or hairpins. If brides do choose a tiara, it’s typically either a more understated jeweled headband or a truly bold piece, like a ribbon headband with vintage-inspired rhinestone and pearl accents.”
